5G connectivity is to become the new lifeblood of the digital economy and society, according to Günther Oettinger. The European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society endorses the presentation of the European 5G vision made by the 5G-Public Private Partnership at the Mobile World Congress 2015.

The European Commission and Europe’s tech industry presented today (03/03/2015) their vision for 5G. A global vision and standards for 5G will be discussed and decided together with international partners in late 2015-2016. With this early input, the EU stands a good chance that key elements of its vision will form part of global standards.

The demonstrations presented on this stand show the results of EU research projects that have already started work on the 5G solutions and the 5G-PPP will now build on these results to develop new concepts and standards and to quickly evolve towards technology trials.
Indeed, the EU and the European ICT industry have launched a new 5G Infrastructure public-private-partnership (5G-PPP) to invent, develop, implement and demonstrate a new 5G infrastructure for wide-scale deployment by 2020. The 5G infrastructure will offer radically new solutions for network throughput, energy efficiency, cost, availability, reliability, and connectivity for billions of people and devices.
